A Note from the Editor Growing up in a competitive school environment with first-gen Chinese parents, I’ve always felt the pressure to not fall behind. During COVID-19, I chose to pay thirty grand for Zoom University instead of taking a gap semester to explore or do something I was passionate about, for fear of graduating “late”. I reconnected with people who had taken the gap semester after they returned to campus, and I found that many of them had gained a better sense of self and what they wanted. This was because for the first time, they had the time and space to reflect. I realized over the past year that everyone’s paths will diverge post-college anyway. There was no need to rush myself so long as I had the financial freedom and was being intentional about my time. I’ll have the rest of my life to work, but now I have less than two months left of being a student, the last bit of time in my life dedicated solely to learning and exploring. Sarah Chieng, this week’s founder, made the difficult decision to take a gap semester and work full-time on her startup.
